The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the heart of Ontario's power system. The IESO delivers key services across the electricity sector including: managing the power system in real-time, planning for the province's future energy needs, enabling conservation and designing a more efficient electricity marketplace to support sector evolution.
Ontario's power system is operating reliably through the COVID-19 outbreak. Please check this site for updates.
The IESO continuously monitors the changing situation to ensure the reliability of the Ontario power system and is committed to keeping Ontarians informed about IESO’s operations and how it is adapting its plans as new information becomes available.
See COVID-19 related updates including a recorded presentation discussing the state of the power system.
Changes in residential electricity usage
As Ontarians settle into new home routines, electricity demand patterns have also changed to reflect these new habits.
Read about the trend we are seeing in residential electricity demand patterns.
New stakeholder engagement framework
In response to stakeholder feedback, the IESO has developed a new framework aimed at enhancing the IESO’s engagement process, creating monthly designated days for engagement meetings. This approach will make it easier for stakeholders to participate and provide greater understanding of the linkages between different engagements.
